Questions we get asked
What does TechEdge do?
We're an outsourced finance office for Australian construction, EPC, solar and renewables businesses. That ranges from bookkeeping to a part time Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Head of Finance. A CPA is in charge of every client.
How much does it cost?
Bookkeeping starts from $999 a month plus GST. Finance Manager starts from $2,750, Financial Controller from $4,950 and Head of Finance from $8,500 a month, all plus GST. Fees are fixed monthly, with no lock in contracts. See the Pricing page for what each level includes.
Which accounting software do you use?
Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks. We work in whichever one you're already on, and we can help you move if it no longer fits.
Do you only work with businesses in Melbourne?
We're based in Hawthorn, Melbourne, and work with businesses across Australia. Most of the work happens online, with calls on video or phone.
Can you handle job costing, progress claims and retentions?
Yes. That's most of what we do for builders and contractors: costs on the right job, claims and variations tracked, and retentions held and owed kept on a schedule so nothing is forgotten.
Does my construction business need to lodge a TPAR?
If your business provides building and construction services and pays contractors for that work, the ATO expects a Taxable payments annual report, due by 28 August each year. We keep contractor records clean through the year so it's ready on time.
What changed with super from 1 July 2026?
Under Payday Super, employers have to pay super so it reaches the employee's fund within 7 business days after payday, instead of quarterly. We run payroll so super goes out with every pay run.
What's the difference between a bookkeeper and a fractional CFO?
A bookkeeper keeps the transactions right. A Finance Manager or Financial Controller turns them into reports, forecasts and bank packs. A Head of Finance or fractional CFO works on funding, strategy and big decisions with you. You can start at one level and move up.
How do STCs affect a solar installer's cash flow?
When you take STCs as a point of sale discount, you pay for the install now and get the STC money later. The number of STCs per system also drops each year until the scheme ends in 2030. We track both so the gap is in your forecast. Read our guide to the 1 January 2027 step down for more.
Can you help with the R&D tax incentive?
Yes. We help work out whether your activities may qualify and keep the time and cost records a claim needs through the year. Read our guide to the changes proposed from 1 July 2028.
